We are working with Director Luke Dixon  and the Conway Collective curating an evening of performance innovations in the main space at London’s Conway Hall.

and seeking 50 people to join in being part of “Flock & Swarm” an event where art and science interact to create a new performance organism. Created through the following of simple rule sets that, through feedback and the human ability to respond to pattern (spatial, thematic, temporal), large scale performance of complexity will unfold in unexpected ways on the night.

To join in with the “Flock & Swarm” project you will need to be able to attend 3 workshops:

9.00-12 Saturday October 13th (at the Conway Hall, WC1R 4RL)

Saturday 4^th June 9.30-3.30

Digi-workshop/seminar with US based Mark Coniglio of Troika Ranch and the Isadora software exploring interactive/ media systems for live performance. A unique opportunity to work with Mark while he is in the UK.

Monday 6^th June 10.30-4.00

Practice-theory workshop exploring the fundamentals of your practice and finding ways to articulate this in words, images and methodologies. A collaborative, creative and discursive day with Jane Turner.

Tuesday 7^th 10.30-4.30

Finding place for our practice – considering how we can test and extend our work with different client groups. Working with Claire Hodgson of DiverseCity.

Wednesday 8^th June 10-4

Digital Business – exploring business models, opportunities and communication strategies in on-line activities with Sinead MacManus of 8fold.

Thursday 9^th June 10-4

Exploring sensor technologies in developing new composition, resulting in a performance sharing. Led by Jane Turner with composers/music technologists Richard Hoadley and Tom Hall.

Course cost:  £100  (places subsidised for BA  Performing Arts London Met graduates)

(The course fee will be refunded for participants who go on to enrol on the PG Certificate course within 3 months).

The Performance Innovations team held an Information Evening at London Metropolitan University on Monday evening. The event was well attended by artists and practitioners from across the performing arts industry including dancers, choreographers, entrepreneurs, costume designers amongst others.

The evening started with a presentation about the Performance Innovations course from Jane Turner with input from partner Sinead Mac Manus and other university staff.

Are you thinking of setting up a company or similar?

The Performance Innovations course will offer participants enterprise, business, creative and work-based training and development opportunities that respond to individual practices, plans and visions. The course will be taught by a team of highly experienced professional practioners and will engage with the 21st century themes of technology, enterprise and diversity.

Commencing in March 2010 and delivered over 2 terms through intensive blocks, online and individual supported practice it will involve: articulating your vision, refining your practice, performance technologies, placement and industry engagement, setting up a website, e-marketing, fundraising and performance. Students will have access to the full range of facilities at the University including rehearsal space, library and study facilities and the digilab.

On completion of the course participants will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate. We anticipate the cost of the course will be £1,500. There may be an option to take modules individually as well.

The Performance Innovations project has secured support from the Creative Way and will offer participants enterprise, business, creative and work-based learning opportunities that respond to individual career plans and industry needs.

Then come and join a 2-day pilot workshop on 15th and 16th June where you will be introduced to the core Performance Innovations themes in a lively, hands-on, supported environment.

• Identify and develop and your creative product
• Consider how it can be promoted and developed as a business
• Try out your ideas in a work placement at the National Youth Theatre through performance presentations and inventions.

The Performance Innovations team held a very successful and insightful Project Launch and Market Research event at London Met last night.

Attended by leading names in the performing arts industry including Fergus Early, Venu Drupa and Karin Fisher-Potisk, the event gave the Performance Innovations team feedback on the development of the PI course.
